BAYFIELD SCHOOL PICNIC

Thk annual picnic in connection with the Bayfield public school was held at Motutapu •yesterday. There was a large attendance of scholars and their parents and friends, some 600 in all being present. The s.s. Condor was chartered for the occasion, and left the Ponsonby Wharf shortly after 8.30, a call being made at the town wharf, where a number of additional excursionists joined the boat. The first portion of the time spent on the popular island passed pleasantly, but the remainder of the outing was marred by the heavy rain which-came on about three o'clock, and compelled the picnickers to rush for such positions of shelter as were available. An interesting sports programme had been started, but owing to the rain this could not be completed. The party reached Fonsonby on the return journey about seven o clock.
