GUARDS' BOYCOTT CASE.
LIEUTENANT WOODS RESIGNS By Telegraph.— Association— t (Received December 19, 11.45 p.m.) London, December 19. Lieutenant H. C. Woods, of the Second Battalion of Grenadier Guards, whose case was the subject, of an investigation by the Army Council last week, was summoned, under article 177, to resign or be removed. Lieutenant Woods has resigned protesting, however, against the decision of the Army Council, on the grounds that the reasons given are insufficient and inadequateand has thus closed his military career.
Allegations were recently' made that Lieutenant Woods, because he was more studious than other officers, had had his career impeded owing to his superior officers boycotting him. A committee of inquiry investigated "the matter, and the Army Council, after considering the report of the committee, found that Lieutenant Woods was inefficient as a regimental officer, and that his retention ; in the service was not in the army's interest. The Army Council acquitted his superior brother officers of being actuated by prejudice or bias, but it thought that some pressure had wrongly been brought to bear to induce Lieutenant Woods to resign his commission.
