CITY VALUATIONS.
ATTAINING THE HALF-MILLION. The Mayor (Mr. A. M. Myers) stated at last night's meeting of the City ' Council that the city valuer had reported the ratable value of the city for the current year at £474,690. There had been three sup- ■ plementary valuations, aggregating £14,467. The buildings so rated were classified as follows:—Wooden buildings,, 92, ratable value £2554; brick shops, dwellings, offices, etc., 55, £8705; ferro-concrete 2, £720 ; brick factories 4, £136; additions to premises 18, £1068; exempt property having become ratable 6, £1304. There was still another supplementary estimate to be submitted in February, which, with increases on old land values, the valuer estimated to bring the annual increase up to £25,000 ratable value, equal to a capita:! value of about £500,000. The Mayor thought the Council might congratulate itself upon the attainment of the half-million figure.
