HONOURING THE BEAD.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, Wednesday. At a meeting of the Marsland Fill Memorial Committee to consider the erection of a, suitable memorial on an eminence in the centre of the town to the Imperial and Colonial troops who fell in the Maori war it was reported that £300 had been collected, and a Government subsidy of £300 had been promised. Donations had been received from officers in all parts of the world, who took part in the war. It was decided to call for competitive designs for the monument. Dunedin, Wednesday. The Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Committee brought its labours to a close to-day, and disbanded. It received some £1600, and after providing foi a marble memorial to the fallen soldiers and commemorative tablets foi the schools, had a surplus of £40. Half of this is to be spent on a souvenir to the lion, secretary (Mr. U. Duncan) and the balance is to go to the Veterans' Home. Auckland.
