The adjourned inquest touching the death of Norman McMillan, farmer, of Komata, who died from injuries to his spine caused by a fall down some steps at Karangahake, was concluded to-day at the courthouse before the district Coroner (Mr. W. M. Wallnutt.}. After hearing the evidence bearing on the accident and relative to the safety or otherwise of the cutting (Doherty's creek) down which deceased fell, the jury returned a verdict with the following riders:" (1) That this jury is of opinion that the accident was caused by the unprotected state of the said cutting, and that great negligence has been shown by some person or persons who are responsible for carrying out the work; (2) that the jury is also of opinion that the cutting should be immediately protected by the erection of a fence down both sides of same, and also that the lamp which has been removed should be immediately re-erected and lit. every night for the protection of the public." The Coroner announced that the verdict would be forwarded to the proper authorities in due course.

The funeral of deceased took place at Paeroa cemetery yesterday afternoon, a large number of relatives and friends attending. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Evans, and the rites of the Masonic and Druid Orders were observed.
