A CRISIS IN CHILI.
BANK SUSPENDS PAYMENT.

Beuter's correspondent at Santiago reports that a serious financial situation has arisen in Chili, owing to the unprecedented fall in the rate of exchange. One bank has suspended payment, and three others have transferred themselves to the Bank of Chili.

It is persistently reported that the Bank of France is watching Mr. Cortelyou's measures for affording financial relief and might co-operate with financial institutions in Paris to extend assistance to Mr. Cortelyou if impelled by the French Government, in order to secure tariff concessions on French goods. (Received November 21, 11 pmi.j London, November 21. The Times says that it is believed by. leading financiers that there is some basis for the report that some arrangement between France and the United States has been diplomatically discussed.
