The first annual meeting of the Waikato Winter Show Association was held on Tuesday oveiun'g, Mr. Allan Bell presiding. The secretary read the report, which staled that tho committee wished to express ; their thanks for tho great assistance they had received from His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. S. Bond), who was principally instrumental in promoting the association, -.At the end of the first year there, - is a credit balance of £7 6s 2d, tho balance-sheet showing; the receipts to have been £541 6s lid, and the expenditure £534 Os 9d. The president suggested that a prize of £20 should bo' offered for the best five-acre paddock of swed.'S grown in the Waikato. Considerable discussion followed, and the opinion was generally expressed that the difficulty of judging would militate against the success of tho proposal, and that, from an educational point of view, it would be far better to offer a substantial prize for the best collection of roots,' accompanied by a statement of details of cultivation. The latter suggestion, was adopted. It was decided to request flock owners to retain fleeces for exhibition. Mr. Irvine Storey, who was formerly assistant clerk to the Magistrate's Court, has been temporarily api>oiuted to the position of clerk of the Court, pending the appointment of a successor to the late Mr. Shanagban. A meeting of. the Executive Committee of tho Waikato A. and P. Association was held on Thursday morning. Mr. W. G. Park, of . Hairini, wrote complaining that he and other exhibitors suffered groat inconvenience j owing to the delay in unloading; stock on show day. ■'■■ Owing to the delay not having been brought under tho notico of all- the stewards, some of his horses were only fudged by the courtesy of other exhibitors. Mr. Coates said the railway arrangements had been unsatisfactory in some respects, and suggested that the Department be witten to, with a view to better arrangements in future. Mrs. Luard Wright, who gave a prize of £5 5s for the champion Jersey cow, intimated that she could not accept her own prize, and asked tho committee to pass it on to the next best exhibit. The chairman said ho had written to Mrs. Wright, asking her to keep'the prize. Accounts amounting to £200 and prize money amounting to £560 were passed for payment.
