[BY TKLEGKAriT.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington", Friday. ; At the Magistrate's Court to-day Gin Sing Ki was fined £20 for having opium in his possession in a form suitable lor smoking. Masterto.v, Friday. The decision of the Defence Department condemning the Opaki Ride Range has caused the projected- rifle meeting this month to be abandoned, as another range cannot, be obtained. The Department has refused to allow even a one-day meeting to be held. Hokitika, Friday. The Harbour Board will consult Mr., Leslie Reynolds this month with reference to the preparation of plans for improving the entrance to the local harbour. Dn.vKDi.v, Friday. An inquest was held to-day into the circumstances surrounding the death of the man Thomas- Murray, who died in the hospital on Thursday morning as the result of injuries received by falling down the well of the stairway in the Gladstone Hotel late on Wednesday night. A verdiet of death from concussion of the brain, the result of an accidental fall from a stairway, was returned.
It has been decided that the season for shooting red deer shall open on April I, and close on May 31.
