TALISMAN SHAREHOLDERS. ACTION BY JOINT COMMITTEE. The joint committee ol Auckland and Wellington shareholders in the Talisman Consolidated Company, -set up for the purpose on Wednesday, met at the office of Mr. A. Hanna, local attorney to the company, last night, to decide upon tne minimum demands of the New Zealand shareholders, in respect of the management and affairs of the company, to be cabled Howe to the board. Mr. Stanstield, mine manager, was present in conference with the committee. The committee sat till a late hour last night, and went fully into the question of what should be demanded in the best interests of the New Zealand shareholders and the development of the mine. A definite policy and a definite demand were unanimously arrived at, and will be despatched this morning to tne London iflice of the company. It is stated that the committee has strong hopes of the offer of compromise being accepted by the directors at Home, and by the present difficulty being settled on a satisfactory basis, the necessity for further hostile action will be avoided. The nature of the demands has not been disclosed.

OLD KAPANGA TRIBUTERS. The manager of the Old Kapanga mine telegraphed yesterday stating "that Regan and party, tributers, secured 181b nt good picked stone from near the cross leader. MAORILAND COPPER COMPANY. . United mine : N0.7 level—No; 2 crosscut has been extended 6ft, and is now in a total of 28ft, the - ground -driven-' through being a very hard bar of sandstone; but to-day a change for the bettei seems coming in. No. 1 crosscut, No. 7 level, has been put in 2ft for the week, a total distance of 17ft 6in, without any chance. No. 5 level winze—The crosscut'at bottom of this winze was put in lift for the week. The ore lxidy went >'n flat, the ore showing 3ft or 4it thick. We have now started to continue the winze down. We have sunk sft for the week, tho total depth being 53fi Monster mine The winze has been sunk 4ft for the week. The lode is now much broken and making more water, but. the assay shows 6.325 per cent, copper. We have now been prospecting and trenching to trace the lode t;«, the east. The ore from the trench assays at 10.70 per cent, copper, as compared" with 1.51 per cent, the previous week. Champion mine—The main drive has now been cleared out and repaired for 200 ft from the mouth. The water in the winze has gone clown, as the water has been pumped out of the main shaft We are now pumping three shifts as the water has been lowered sufficiently to communicate with the drive running under 'the cricek, and which is a f cw hundred feet loner, the depth beinobetween 120 ft and 130 ft

mm MANAGERS* REPORTS. Kapowai: The low level in now in sSsft. In .K«. 2 level development works -are going on as usual. A start' lias been, made with the erection of the Beetle batten- and crushing will be stopped pending; the completion of the additions. Kuranui-Caledoniau : During tire past fortnight the crosscut at No. V level has been penetrating a. very tight class of line-grained sandstone country, devoid of heads. Consequently progress lias been somewhat slow. However, I do not dislike this class of country, as generally in this mine the richest portions of the reefs are found in hard country. Total distance driven is 288 ft. The other works in progress are rising .and stupnig on the 3in leader east of the Crosscut. In the rise the country has also been tight, but- is traversed by numerous mineral veins, which should have a beneficial effect o;- this lode. Distance above the back of level, 37ft. A leading stope has been carried along 30ft. The lode averages 4iu, and the quarts contains n very favourable class of minerals, but- verv little gold has been seen.

W'aihi Beach: The mine is unwateied and we have started driving south. .May Queen Extended: I am forwarding you a few pieces of quartz from Hansen's winze, 'showing strong gold. Some of the pieces flic very heavy in minerals. 'Hie lode in the winze maintains its size and is almost a mass of minerals in places. , We obtained the best of the stone in sinking for a well hole at the bottom of the winze before opening out east- and west, and on account of the stone showing improvement I am sinking the winze * little deeper, after preparing to open out. The winze is now close on 40ft in depth, and the. reef looks really well, although f should like to see the gold more general through the stone: but no doubt there is gold hidden by the mineral. I am saving all quartz. In the" new intermediate level we had driven 74ft on Saturday, and two promising veins of quartz are showing in the face, which is now coming into settled country. (The samples of stone referred to in the manager's report are to bo seen at the office of the company.) Mount Zeeban: During the week ending August 17 the principal work was the extension of the drive on the west branch. This drive is now in a total of 44ft from No. 2, 14it having been driven this week. The reef opened to fully 2ft oil), but is at present down to about Ift in the, face. The copjier band previously mentioned is not so defined as formerly. It is more distributed through the stone. I have, done a little trenchnig on the surface on the course of the Birthday reef, but so far have not been able to locate anv quartz approaching (lie same richness as when first operated on.
