UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNCIL.
A MEETING of the University College Council was'held yesterday afternoon. Sir Maurice 6'Rorke occupied the ;chair, and there were also present: Messrs. Peacocke, F. E. Baume, T. U. Wells, L. J. Bagnall, Colbeek, G.L. Peacocke, and Bishop Neligan, Dr. McDowell, and the Rev. Mr. Sim•monds. ,- - The Chairmanship: Sir Maurice O'Rorke, whose "term;of office had , expired, was reelected • chairman. He expressed, the. hone that he would during his, ensuing term as chairman • see the new university building started. '■ / ' - / "'■■" , . ' : :.' " Position: of Registrar: : The chairman reported that there had been 65 applications received , for the position *of registrar. A motion: was carried forming a committee to reduce the names to six, to be submitted to the council for final selection. Leave of Absence: The French and German lecturer (Mr. Walker) asked for leave of absence for a year, with the option of extending >it for two years. Mr. Walker asked.that the leave might date from the end of t, the year. His object ' was to visit France and Germany to acquire a better knowledge of his subjects. The year's leave was granted, but should Mr. Walker require another year he would have to apply to the council again.' Mr. \ Walker's ': object was described" as praiseworthy and one to be encouraged. „ Accounts: ;Accounts amounting to £503 <7s 8d were passed for payment. , The next meeting was fixed for July 15.
