The Department of Industries and Commerce haa received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, June to-— The," mutton market is quiet and trade for all classes is very slow, prices being barely maintained. There is a moderate supply. Canterbury brand sold at 5Jd and other than Canterbury at 5Ad per lb. The beef market is very firm and the stocks of New Zealand are light. Quotations were, 4£d, and 33d for hind .and fofisquartera respectively. r if The butter marked is -Arm, notwithstanding the large receipts. Choicest New Zealand sold at 995, Siberian -91s, and Banish 107 a. . _ , The ; cheese market is quiet. ' Prices are likely to go lower owing to an increase in the Canadian supplies.".' Owifig to the extremely bad weather and oversupply apples have weakened ' during the week and the prospects \ are not very good • for immediate shipments. Choice dessert realised 8s 6d to 9s 6d per case; prime, 6s to 8s per case; cookers, best 5s 6d "to 6s 6d, good 4s to 5s per case. Dessert pears are in excellent demand just, now.at 13s 6d to 14s 6d per case choicest and 3s. to lis for ordinary descriptions. Auckland . lemons are in poor demand at 3s to 3a 6d per case. Passions, 3s to 4s per box. The Cook Island oranges arrived in fair to good order, but the quantity prevented high rates ruling, only up to 5s per case being' realised. ■ ; Grapes are ill scarce supply at la 3d per lb ; tree tomatoes,"6s to'6s 6d per box.
