Mr. Edw. Greenhaljh, of the River head Paper' Mills, ' was presented on Friday last by the employees and other friends with a silver tea and coffee service, prior to his departure to take up the managership of. i the Mataura Paper Mi 11... Mr. M. Thompson made the presentation.
The Minister for Education (the Hon. G. Fowlds) will leave Wellington to-day, and to-morrow he will open a technical school at New Plymouth. Ho will come on to Auckland in the evening. On Friday night Mr. Fowlds will attend the dinner of the past and present Auckland district members of Parliament. On Monday he will formally open the baths which have been erected at the hot springs near Helensvilte. The next evening he will address his constituents, and on the following morning will return to Wellington. - *
Mr. John Clements, a resident in the Hutt Valley, has been closely identified with the leaders of the Primitive Methodist Church, which has just attained its centenary. Mr. Clements, who.; has been a local preacher for the past 60 years, had the rare experience of preaching when a • young-man before Messrs. Hugh Bourne and Wm.' Clowes, the two founders of the Church. -Regret was expressed • that ' Mr. Clements was not able to be present at Monday's night's celebration in the Webbistreet ; Church, Wellington. Other local veterans of. the Church who received special mention on Monday night were Messrs. James Mitchell, of Wellington', and James Taylor,- of Tawa Flat. ; y This trio, said the : Rev. i| Mr. Dawson, .were each close on 90 years of age.
