- [by telegraph.—press association.] Christchtjrch, Tuesday. At a meeting of tho : Canterbury Rugby Union to-night a letter was read from the New Zealand Union, asking the committee to hold an immediate inquiry into the matter of players under the jurisdiction of the Canterbury .. Union refusing to sign the declaration as requested by the New Zealand Union. J
Mr. D. McGregor, who previously had refused to sign the document, attended and stated that he was willing now. to sign it at any time. In reply to a question he said his reason for refusing to sign the declaration was that the Rugby Union had never doubted his amateur status before, and he saw no reason why they should do so this year. He wished to say nothing about the professional team, and declined to divulge anything that might have taken place. He was prepared to sign now, simply because the other players were signing. /"■/'.'"'" y It was agreed to forward McGregor's reply to the New Zealand Union for consideration.
