GISBORNE NEWS.

j [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ' V . -•■■•*.-■'' . '■ ■■'. •"'' ' '.' . Gisborne, Tuesday. A dearth of bricks is being experienced just now by Gisborne builders. The local brickmakers cannot, supply nearly fast enough to meet the demand, and there appears to be great difficulty in getting bricks from Auckland and scows' to carry them. ' '■ Instructions were given to the contractor for the Roebuck Road bridge to-day to pro-! ceed with the work. The construction. of the bridge has been hung up pending an appeal lodged by Messrs. Nelson Bros, against the new structure, on the ground that it interfered with the navigation of the river. The Marine Department, to whom the matter was referred, have upheld ,the contention of the council and authorised them to proceed.
