The Island mail steamer ; Tambo, Captain Voy, of Burns, Philp, and Co.'s line, arrived off town at ten a.m. on. the 9th inst., and after safely landing her mails, passengers, and cargo, resumed her voyage to the islands just after dusk the same day.; Mrs.: Elliot, the wife of the chief magistrate, returned to the island in the Tambo, and the steamer also brought several tourists', who are delighted with: the island. One of them, the Rev. Father Barry, celebrated Mass at Anson Bay last Sunday morning, this being the first Catholic service held here for over 50 years. . ' ,rA'S golf : club * has been , started, with a | large membership, and play will commence as soon as the ground has been got ready and the sticks arrive. Captain Elliot,' the chief magistrate, is the president, and is an enthusiastic player and organiser. The weather during the past month has been rather blustery, with occasional, rain squalls. The following are the weather ' notes for April: —Barometer Highest, on the 4th, 29.900; lowest, on the 6th, 29.450. Thermometer: Maximum, 79 minimum, 60. Rain, on seven days, 4.50 in. Winds: 16 days westerly, 14 days.
