Nothing has transpired further in regard to the question of inducing coalminers to emigrate from England to New South Wales, under the assumption that work is available in the collieries of the South. Coast district. ' In regard . to, the question" of the immigration of persons other than agriculturists, the Intelligence Department furnishes the following: information:—"Some exception has been taken by the Sydney Labour Council to the action of the Agent-General in advertising in , England that New South Wales was willing to welcome immigrants other than agriculturists..; Whatever ground there may have been for 'the sensitive objection of the Labour Council in this direction, it has evidently been . removed, for the AgentGeneral has telegraphed to the Premier in the following , terms:—"According j to cable from London, Labour Council propose to take decisive action' to counteract glowing advertisements to tempt immi- ; grants. Council : must ;be under misappre-' hension, as am not advertising and not accepting mechanics, .except few who are willing and capable of following, rural pursuits. Am keeping "well within instructions of Intelligence Department.'"
