GRATIFYING ALL-ROUND INCREASE

GROWING EXPORT TRADE.

The business prosperity of any province is largely reflected in its exports. That the prosperity of the Auckland district is on an excellent footing is shown by the Customs returns for the month of May, ' available on Saturday. A gratifying all-round increase is shown over May of last year; while for last month several lines have been exported which were not sent away in the corresponding l period of 1905. The Customs duties col- j lected for last month totalled £60,725 ss, as against £46,583 5s 7d in May last year, an increase of £14,141 19s sd. The beer duty totalled £2016 16s 9d, against £1806 6s Bd, an increase .of £210 10s Id.

In minerals a total of 36,9360z 16dwt of gold, valued at £150,005 was exported, as against 31,2280z Idwt valued at £127,335 in May, 1906, representing an increase of 57080z 15dwt, or £22,670. The amount of silver sent away last month was 265,4490z 19dwt, valued at £27,002, against 190,4850z 3dwt, valued at £19,589, during the corresponding month last year, or an increase of 74,9640z 16dvvt, representing £7413. ~. ~.,-:.' ■. - °

During May last year, under the heading of cereals, 157 bushels, valued at £67, embracing other kinds than those, specified this year, were exported. . '
