HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The Hamilton Council met on Friday evening. There were present: The Mayor (Mr. J. L. Bond) and Messrs. Roche, Fow, McDiarmid, Bell, Barton, Young, Tidd, Davis, and Mason. A claim of £10 made by Mr. J. Edkins for compensation for having fallen into a gravel pit was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee. It was decided to appoint a caretaker of the cemeteries and reserves. . It was agreed to compensate Mr. Hinton for damage done to his property by the drainage contractor. ■ j Th ? question of site for a post office at Hamilton East was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee. The Minister for Labour acknowledged receipt of the Council's resolution with reference to the Saturday half-holiday under the Factories-Act. The Minister replied that Parliament might see fit to alter the law, but in the meantime lie could only instruct his officers to administer the law in its present form. It was decided to reply to Mr. Hewett, chairman of the Raglan County Council, that the Borough Council would support a request to have Ngaruawahia, Te Akatea, waingaro, and Waimai constituted telephone stations. The general manager of railways wrote regretting his inability to-put in a siding to the Hamilton cattle yards. Mr. Barton said that years ago the siding had been rom 'sed, provided tho Council contributed JuoOO.
