MEETINGS.
t - MOUNT ALBERT ROAD BOARD. A meeting of the Mount Albert Road Board was held on Thursday evening, those present being Messrs. M.'.McLean (chairman), F. Ellison, M. J. Coylc. and J. M. Stanton. The following works were authorised:—Repairs to Woodward Road, at. an estimated cost of £41; Morrin-street, estimated cost £6 Is 6d; Kingsland Avenue, estimated cost £15; Fourth >Avonuo W., estimated cost of formation £18 12s. A claim' for compensation for a broken arm, caused by tripping over a stone, was received, and it was resolved to inform the claimant that the Board accept no liability.. An inquiry from the Auckland City Council as to whether the Mount Albert Road district would joint a Greater Auckland for the purpose of drainage was considered, and the following resolution was carried:—" The Board are prepared to consider the question of drainage generally -as it affects- their district. In regard to joining a Greater Auckland for that purpose, they are prepared tc discuss the matter, but do not at present feel that they have information enough to in any way commit themselves." YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIA- .. •; TION. A meeting of : the representatives of the .various ■ committees connected with the Young Men's .Christian Association was held in tho association's rooms on Thursday evening. Mr. Wesley Soragg presided. Papers were read and addresses given by the chairmen of the different committees 011 membership,:: finance,- physical, social, educational, and, religious work, and the boys' department. Discussion ensued. .The Membership Committee announced that, it was arranging for- a 1 "one day membership campaign, a novel feature.in New Zea- . land, _ but one which has been fruitful in America. The chairman of the Social Committee strongly recommended 'the introduction of a billiard-table, and the extension of the refreshment section of" the 'department. The chairman of the Religious Work Committee intimated ' that the -services 01 the Rev. R. 11. Qatherwood had been secured for talks to men on Sunday afternoons during tlie winter months. ''.-.'.
MYRTLE REBEKAH LODGE, 1.0.0. F.
An enjoyable evening was spent at the lodgerooin of the j above lodge on Thursday, Sister Cowan, N.G., in the chair. An invitation had been sent to tho Grand Lodge representatives and, the reception was given to them by the sisters of the Order... Members of the Alpha' Juvenile Lodge were also present, and also' members of Wyuyard. Star of Anckla-hd.anc^HAioat'ea,' Birkenhead. A capital programme was' gone through, items being given, by members! of the different lodges and by _ friends. Speeches of welcomo from ijisfer. Cowan, ' N.G., Sister Statham, V.G., .and Sister Clark, secretary, were made! and kindly acknowledged by all the representatives. A ideas ing feature of the evening was tho installation of Brother Holdsworth as D.D.G.M. by Brother Gray, the sisters of the lodge being much gratified that tho Grand Lodge officers had chosen their lodge as the scene of the ceremony.
BIRKENHEAD BAND OF HOPE. A meeting of.'.the Birkenhead Band of Hope was- held in the Zion Hill- schoolroom last night. Mr. Fred. Sottster occupied tho chair. The programme included a piano duet by Miss ;E. White and Master Allan White; recitations by Misses E. Wilson, A. Pitt, D. Pitt, E. Pitt, and Mr. H. Rawlinson; piaiibforto solo by Miss N. White; song by Sirs. E. Wailis ; and dialogues by several ladies, and by tho children. ~
NORTHCOTE ATHENAEUM.
The fortnightly meeting of the Northcote Athenaeum was held in the Bay View Hall, Northcoie, last night. Mr. F. T. Jeffery presided, and there was a good attendance. Tho evening was devoted to impromptu speeches, in which Mrs. Cavave. Messrs. H. W. # .Wilding, B. Hunt, G. Carter, E. J. Tremain, A. Waterworth, Ernest Greenslade, G. Hunt, Arthur E. Greenslade, W. HAMILTON LIBRARY COMMITTEE.
•At a meeting ,of ■•- the Hamilton ■ Library Committee a letter was read from .Mr. R. Bradley, resigning his position as chairman of.the committee, and the resignation was accepted with regret. WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD. Tho monthly meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board was held on Thursday, Mr. Bond presiding. The chairman • reported that all the necessary documents .in connection with the loan were complete. He and Mr. Bell were authorised to sign the papers, subject to the' approval of Mr. Swarbrick, the Board's solicitor. The treasurer read his report as follows:—Receipts: "Sale of produce, £1 10s; old "ago pensions, £15 13s Id; rents, £9 ss; Waikato County Council, £159 17s; fees, .£B9 0s 4d. Debit balance: £1479 15s lOd. Amounts duo from local bodies: Wa.ipa County Council, £755 16s; Pi alto County Council, £719 7s; Waikato County Council, £474; Raglan County Council, £491 13s; Hamilton Borough Council, £198 Is; Cambridge Borough Council, £115 ss; Te Aroha Borough Council, £86 Is. The surgeon's report was as follows:—Number of patients at last report, 41 males and 10 females; admitted since, 29 males and 9 females; deaths, 1 male and 1 female; discharged, 28 males and 9 females; remaining at date, 41 males and 9 females. The chairman gave notice to move at next meeting, " That the fee for treatment of patients be raised to 5s per day, and that patients requiring isolation and special treatment pay 40s per week." ■ ■•■'..;■', . •■■''■'
