THE GOSPEL OF LABOUR.
LETTER FROM MR. BEN. TILLETT. [BY telegraph.— CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Friday. . It was reported at last night's meeting of the Trades Council that the whole of the indebtedness . of affiliated unions to the Council had been paid up, and the, books now showed a credit balance. .-
In a letter to the Council, Mr. Ben. Tillett, the Labour leader from London, who is now health-recruiting in Australia, wrote that the Labour movement was now on its trial in Britain. Mr. Tillett added that there " were reasonable possibilities of it succeeding, although the present Liberal Government appears incapable of tackling the unemployed problem, which at Home is an evil as great as our poor-law system. We wish your movement every success, and view with the keenest satisfaction the progress you are making in the colonies, which offer the. best example of Labour's solidarity and consolidation of force."
