PREDATORY MEN OF WEALTH.
DENUNCIATION BY MR. ROOSEVELT. MORE • DANGEROUS THAN ANARCHISTS. By Telegraph.*—rrwa Association.—Copyright (Received May 31. 11.10 p.m.. 1 London*. May 31. President Roosevelt, speaking at Indianopolis yesterday, said that property was less in jeopardy from the socialists and anarchists than predatory men of wealth. The Government did not intend to refrain from asserting the nation's right to control businesses, and the use of wealth especially in its corporate form. The Government must exercise over the railways a power analogous to that exercised over the national banks. It must prevent over-capitalisation and the undue inflation of securities. Every honestly-managed railway, he said, would gain under this policy. The Government's purpose in no sense was punitive or vindictive. No single State was powerful enough to cope legislatively with the powerful corporations engaged in inter-State commerce.
