SYDNEY MURDER TRIAL.
FROM ASYLUM TO COURT. SENTENCE OF DEATH. By Telegraph.— Association.— (Received May 50. 11.8 p.m.) Sydney, Mar 30. Rich Riley, who killed Rose Armokl 15 months ago, has been scutenced to death. At the time of the murder Riley was placed in an asylum as insane. Tiro medical ovidencc showed that Riley was suffering from delusional mania. Recently he recovered his sanity, and has been placed again on his trial. The prisoner made a statement that hi# insanity had been produced by mental troubles occasioned by the girl. Ha did not feel a guilty man, nor did ht bear a guilty conscience. It had pleased God to deprive him of his reason, and He would not hold him Responsible' for ' What he did in that state. .
i On March 28 of last year Riley took » ibarmaid named Rose Arnold, aged*24, with whom ho was keeping company, to the house where he lodged. She went with him, to his room, and shortly afterwards several shots were heard. The landlord, looking out of a window, saw Riley standing at- the window of his room looking out and calmly smoking a cigarette. The girl was lying on the floor. Then ; further 'shots were heard. The door was forced and the girl was found, dead,, and beside her lay Riley, with a bullet wound and his throat cut-. Jealousy ' had impelled Riley to the crime. He tried in May and found guilty of murder, and the following month was pronounced insane . and placed in an asylum.
