THE NORTHERN CHIEF. , i The barque Northern Chief, from Newcastle and Sydney, wad towed up to the Sugar Works, Chelsea, yesterday to discharge her cargo of coal. • Captain" Spruit reports that the barque sailed from Sydney at 10 a.m. on May 18 with a light north-east wind, which continued for two days, ' when the wind shifted >to the north, blowing freeh until the 22nd, when it veered to the westward. Cape Maria Van Ciemen war abeam at 10 i) m. on the 25th, the wind being fresh from west-south-west up the coast. Passed Mokohinau at 10 p.m. on the 26th, Tiritiri being: rounded, at b.30 a.in. on the 27th, the wind stall blowing fresh from west-south-west. At 10 a.m. the same date the wind suddenly increased to a gale, with heavy rain squalls.'and the barque was squared away for shelter in the Firth of Thames, 'where she'anchored at 2 p.m.lt blew a , throughout 4 the day and night, the weather ( moderating at 2 a.m. on the Atday]light tin) vessel got undcrweigh: and anchored off the North Head for the night, cooxiPg into port on the night of the 29th. .
