THE WINTER SHOW.
Sir,—An interested visitor at the late excellent winter show would liko to offer tho following suggestion to those concerned. If a, marquee was placed at the disposal of tho schools next year a most interesting exhibit on the linos oi the districts' courts could be made by tho schools. Each school willing to compete could be allowed a cortairi space to be dressed, by two or three of the elder pupils perhaps, with vegetables, flowers, seeds, etc., from the school gardens, specimens of needlework, drawing, 0:0., and woodwork, etc. The advantage possessed bylarge city schools in certain items might be counterbalanced in• case' of country; schools by their gardens. If during the » year the show authorities " discussed with the Teachers' Institute this scheme and * arranged various points as to whether large,..schools were to bo handicapped or not, the points to be given for various items, etc., Tbelieva a practicable scheme could be evolved that would lead to a most interesting exhibit, and while ' benefiting the show would improve the school work by giving the children an incentive. A shield or. banner, might bo given under the usual conditions to the successful school,■ and perhaps small prizes to the best individual exhibit of each kind.. The talk of the .children would give the next winter show an - advertisement ' that would be cheap at double tho cost of th« prizes. A Teaches.
