At tho Supremo Court to-day' a young man named McLean was found not guilty on a charge- of forging a ..cheque. • The judge said this was the most extraordinary case that had come under, his personal notice. Accused and two companions, named Wale and Foster, went to a hotel, and a cheque was tendered in payment for drink. The hotelkeeper could not swear which of the three tendered- the cheque. Foster said he saw "a cheque passed over the counter, but could not say who passed it. Wale and accused each swore that they did not see a cheque tendered. The judge said the jury had.no option but to find a verdict of not guilty. ■ . ' '. DUNEDIN. -." [by TELEGRAPH.--PRESS ASSOCIATION".] Dunedin", Wednesday. At the criminal sittings, which concluded this morning, John Johnston pleaded guilty to several charges of exposing an indecent postcard, and was sentenced, to five years' imprisonment. Medical evidence was tendered to show that, though not insane, the prisoner was a degenerate. /Frederick John Gardner, convicted on two charges of receiving stolen goods, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, and David Isaac Rodger, for a similar offence, received twelve months' imprisonment. Samuel Campbell; Charlotte Matilda O'Keliy v. John Henry O'Keliy ; Kate Ruby Lash v. Frederick William Lash.
