ABATTOIRS FOR THAMES.
[BY telegraph.—own corresponds?:!.]
! ;■■;:.'" Thames, Wednesday. 'A special meeting of the Thames Borough Council was held to-day to consider the question of establishing public abattoirs. It was unanimously resolved to lake the necessary steps to borrow the sum of £2500 for this purpose. Tho Mayor explained that it was also necessary' to pass a. resolution empowering the Council to strike a special rate of six farthings in the pound as security for the loan, which was part of the conditions under which the loan would have to be obtained, according to the Act. This he explained was purely a matter of form, as it had' been clearly proved by careful inquiry that the public abattoirs, if properly managed, would be a success. There was no doubt that the profits accruing from the business would more than. pay the interest and sinking fund, and that consequently the special rate authorised would not require to be enforced. The resolution was carried unanimously, and it was resolved to hold a special meeting of the Council on June 27 to confirm both the resolutions.
