The trustees of the Methodist Church at their meeting on Friday were engaged in discussing a combined scheme for the re-; roofing of the church and repainting the' building, as well as proposals for the erection of a new building suitable for Sundayschool and social meetings. ; Plans are being prepared and will bo laid before the trustees at an early date. ,
A euchre party and social in aid: of the Catholic Convent funds took place on< Friday night and was well attended, the prizes being won by Miss Mc&ee and Mr. J. Millar.
The Band of Hope Society had a good meeting on Friday night. Mr. "G. Havill presided, and a good programme was provided, in which the members of the Andrew family .figured largely, assisted by recitations from Misses Sinclair and Harrison and Mr. Schofield. and vocal solos from Mr. G. Galloway.
The Anglican Church is celebrating its diamond jubilee this w3ek, and special services were held on Sunday in connection therewith. On Monday nigh*, ?n interesting lecture on "The History of the \nglican Church in New Zealand" was delivered by Canon Haselden, The lecture was illustrated with a large number of lantern slides thrown on the screen, by the Rev. H. Mason. The lecture was listened to with great interest, and a collection was taken up in aid of women's work on the mission field.
