NEW ZEALAND PETROLEUM.
[bt telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION.]
New Plymouth, Tuesday. The petroleum works at Moturoa are at an interesting stage. The last of the machinery required for cleaning No. 1 bore has arrived from ■; Sydney; not only is No. 2 bora down about the oil stratum, but No. 3 also is expected to strike petroleum very, shortly. : This bore is now down to the depth reached by Mr. Samuels' Company, 1976 ft. '■■= Fragments of the braes pump and tow packing that formed part of the devices used to keep water out of the bore have been brought to the surface by the drill. It had been said that the -borers were likely to meet impassable obstructions near the bottom of this bore, but it now appears that the obstructions, if there, have been passed. ■" ';■ '"■'■'.' No word has been yet received from Mr. Simpson, the Taranaki Petroleum Company's boring expert, who was expected to arrive m Auckland yesterday from Canada.
