WAGES IN GERMANY.
■t Sir,?—ln your leader to-day you advise your readers to peruse a recently-issued book, entitled "Life and Labour in Germany." Permit me to suggest that it would be well if at. the same time they refer to the - Berlin telegram published in tho Heb.uji on April 10 last* It is headed, ■■ "Wages in Germany. Millions with loss than living wage." ~WheH I read the telegram 1 seemed - to be listening to a cry of pain from the ;t workmen of that country. I will now quot*' ' i the. very, doleful message:—"The Central Committee of tho German Trades Union' • report'that millions of German workers are ~.. not receiyin" a;living wage. In 27 out of 66* organised trades 'the average wage ' ; is. below 3s a day. These trades include* the clothing industry, representing 212,000 workers; the Saxon textile industry, with 225,000 workers: the North and South ;-\ : ' tile unions, with 24 ',000 workers:' and {.;.,.> •' tobacco industry, with 150,000 workers.
