Southern Queen (May 25): Stoping is being carried out o»i the Atlantic reef at No. 2 level, quartz of a kindly description - coming to hand and containing '■■■ excellent mineral indications. Strong colours of gold were seen while breaking down. The winze on the Blue reef at No. 2 level, has been sunk 41ft and the reef formation is still of small dimensions, but with a tendency to open out in the bottom of the winze. The quartz carries good minerals and a , little < gold. The reef formation in the drive on the No. 3 level averages about 20in. The quartz looks well, but so far no gold has been seen. There is a "noticeable improvement in the quartz and country, and I expect to find good payable gold in the ore bodies. • Halcyon (May 25): A course has been laid by Mr. Adams to drive from the face of, the new crosscut due south-east to intersect the Halcyon reef. About 25ft of driving, should cut the reef. After driving about 9ft we tapped a reef running east and west in a good channel of country, a quantity of water issuing from the back of the bar. I* am" squaring -up the face and ' stripping the. reef. The crosscut- has been extended 12ft for the week, making 44ft in all. The low level to intersect the new reef has been extended 7ft, making 37ft from the entrance. ■ : New. In the reef the stone for the, first 4ft is solid quartz and in the end the formation is stringers and ribs of sandstone. The quartz in these stringers has a kindly appearance, carrying favourable mineral. The only . work done in the rise .east of the break has been breaking down the quartz, and a few colours of gold were ■seen in the stringer on the hangingwall of the reef.
