POULTRY EXPORT TRADE.
■ . AUCKLAND DUCKLINGS IN • v : ' -' LONDON. ' v . The . New Zealand, Loan arid Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Auckland, received advice from London yesterday of their second shipment of frozen ducklings to London) per s.s. Raka;i&., . The report states: — The consignment came to hand in satisfactory . condition. ■•) The quality was very good, and the market continues firm for this class ,of article, owing to the other descriptions still being in small* supply. Russian.'- are making 2s 9d to 3s each; frozen Irish, 2s 9d; rand • New .Zealand, 3s 3d to 3s 9d, and occasionally 4s each, according to weight' and quality.,
The .birds that brought 4s each were shipped from Auckland, and this; is the da sis of bird ; most suited for the London market. - The Loan arid Mercantile Co. have been endeavouring to bring this trade up 'to a good standard, and by the s.s. Mamari, which has just arrived in Auckland, !they have imported for Mr. P. H. "Bodle, of Mangere, three drakes and Trine ducks of the purebred Aylesbury strain. This importation should give a good impetus to l the 'export trade, as imported birds of a class new to-Auckland must naturally improve , the breed. ; This trade, though now-in its infancy, has every prospect of being one of the largest industries in the colonies, arid' it is only by exporting the best class of birds that .New Zealand can compete with other countries.
