NORTH AUCKLAND HOSPITAL BOARD.

Whangabei, Monday. At the quarterly\ meeting of the North Auckland Hospital Board there were present . representatives from Whangarei Borough •and County, and Otanwtea., Hobson, Mangonui, Whangaroa, Bay of Islands, and Hokianga Counties. Mr. J. D. McKenzie. Chair-man of the Board, presided. : ; ; The chairman's report made allusion to an endeaviur being made to secure the services of Mr. Strathem as official to giiardi the interests of the Board with reference to the admission of unauthorised patients to the Auckland Hospital. That gentleman was .not, able to act, but the Auckland Hospital. Board had been asked mot to admit patients, without an order other than urgent cases. , Dr. Cato had resigned his position as medical officer to the Rawehe Hospital, and Dr. Yeates was appointed in. his stead. Nurse Johnston, of Waikamo Hospital, had been selected as matron. ■" The epidemic of typhoid in Rawehe' district has now subsided. A vote of, £500 for furnishing and sanitary work in connection with Mangonui Hospital had been : applied for. The secretary of the Northern Wairoa. Board of Trustees had \ submitted a statement of estimated expenditure and receipts for the year ending March 31, 1908, which was given at £1813 and £1278 respectively, leaving a deficiency of £535. The trustees had - amended this claim, which now stood at £365. The Hobson County Council had made a claim on the Board for £200, which was £80 more than their disbursements, and their Claim made them face the fact that the county still owes the Board £385 lis lid, Their failure to pay this sum deprives the Board of an equal amount in subsidy. ! The /Hospital Sunday demonstrations in jWllaEJgarea and Hikurangi realised £59 10s, which, with a subsidy of 24s in the £. would make a.total of £121. The report was unanimously adopted. .
Tire Hokianga county clerk wrote asking that the sum of £2*97 8s 8d be passed by the Board-, -being the balance due in administration. He also notified the. Board that the capital value of the Hokianga County Vuibject to rating was £23,197. Dealing with the Northern Wairoa d««im, ; the ohairmaa held this to be excessively high in comparison with other hospitals of a similar size. . After, discussion, it- was finally resolved, " That the claim of the Northern Wairoa- trustees is still unsatisfactory, and that they be asked to reconsider it,' failing which the Board wouldi be compelled to institute another inquiry:, into the management of the Northern 'Wairoa Hospital. - ' , In the claim for loss sustained by removal of the Mangonui .Hospital site, the arbitrators appointed awarded John Draper, .claimant, £324 9s 7d, with -.the added expense of extra carting, £77 7s 3d. The costs of. arbitration, totalling £44 5s ; 6d, aire to be shared equally by the Board and Mr. Draper. The Mayor's notice of motion to levy & rate of one-sixth of a penny in the pound was given 'effect* to.- Accounts amounting to £908 10s lid were passed . for payment.
