YOUNG WOMA 'S NOSE BITTEN.
SEQUEL TO A LOVER'S QUARREL, [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.]
Dunedin, Monday. Thomas Maokay, aged 25, on Saturday night bit oft* a portion of the nose of Eliza Mary Hall, aged 21., Mackay was subsequently '. arrested. .
The accused was at one time engaged to Miss Hall, who resides with her father and sisters in Hanover-street. Some months ago the couple went to Melbourne, which is Mackay's birth-place, to be married, but the lady changed her mind, and returned ito Dunedin on Saturday, Mackay accompanying her.
'In the afternoon they were proceeding along Castle-street in company with Miss i Hall's sister, Frances, who was walking a [ short distance in advance. On Frances looking around she noticed the other pair had stopped. Miss Hall began to scream, and cried out that her nose had been bitten. The suffering girl was taken to the hospital, where the doctors reported that she had sustained a permanent disfigurement. ;'• . '~ ■■
In the evening, it is alleged, Mackay went to the Halls' house, and appeared to Ibe very penitent. It is said that he went the length of requesting the father of the injured girl to kill him, while he is further reported to have taken up a weapon with the object of killing himself.
Mackay appeared before the Court to-day charged with -having bitten Miss Hall's nose. He was remanded till June 4.
