PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.

A MEETING of the Piako County Council was held_ in Te Aroha on Monday, Mr. T. Gavin presiding. -Several.deputations waited on the Council, chiefly with reference to drainagel- Settlers on the Lockerbie Estate asked the Council to assist them to get drains and roads on the estate put in order. It was resolved to .press the Bank of New Zealand to give, this matter prompt attention. Messrs. 1. Pavitt and T. Mclndoe, trustees of the le Aroha cemetery, pointed out to the Council that portions of the Cemetery Koad were often under water to a depth of 4ft. '1 hey asked if the Council would endeavour to have the road raised where necessary. The Council undertook to look into the matter. Mr. J. L. Hart wrote asking for a bridge to he-constructed across the Waihi River, on the Matamata-Kimia-Tauranga Road, to facilitate working the portion of the Okauai >o. 1 Block, recently purchased by Messrs. Hart and Wood. They were willing to bear 25 cent, of the cost. Foreman Mahood was instructed to report. The cost of a bridge is estimated at £1000. - A letter from the Department of Railways was read, stating that, since it would probably be necessary to build a new station before long, the Department did not think it advisable to spend much on improving the present structure. It was resolved to renew the request lor reasonable accommodation at Te Aroha. The Cambridge Borough Council wrote for payment of £675, the Piako County quota now due. Mr. Keeley pointed out the necessity, for strengthening the Karapira bridge, or erecting a new one in a more suitable site. The bridge has been condemned for heavy traffic, and if it should become impassable; the high level bridge would be rendered useless. He submitted a resolution passed by a meeting of settlers at Karapira, on the subject, and moved, " That a copy be sent to the Cambridge Borough Council." The motion was carried. It was resolved that a cheque for the sum due on account of the high level bridge be forwarded, and that the necessary formalities for raising a loan of £1600 be completed.. The following tenders were accepted: — Curtis' bridge. Watts, £188; Waitoa bridge. Forrest," £50; Piako bridge. Watts, £42: Matainata culvert, Forrest, £164; Johnson's Creek drain, J. O'Brien. 3s 9d per chain; Matamata Road drain, D. Bellman, 18 4d per chain. .
