IN REPLY TO HIGHER CRITICISM.
THE REVISION OP THE VULGATE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—-OWN CORRESPOND!?:!'!.]
' ' : Wellington, Thursday. The cable message from London, stating that the Pope has entrusted the revision of the Vulgate to the Benedictine Order, led the Post to interview Father Keogh, rector of St. Patrick's College, on the subject. "We have no news of that matter," said Father Keogb.' He stated that an Ecclesiastical Commission, comprising representatives of various countries, including two from England, had been sitting in Rome for several years. - The Commission was going through the Bible from beginning to end, with a- view to defending the Scriptures in the face of the "Higher. Criticism." Far from trimming the Bible in deference to the "Higher Critics," the Commission would defend : the existing text. Of course, if there was anything which the members were satisfied was an interpolation it would be removed.
