Casey, whose seat had been declared vacant. , Mr. Mackay was" accordingly elected a member of the Board. 'V'-" A motion was moved by Mr. Bruce, and carried, informing the Health Department that the'use of the cottage could not again in .the future be allowed them, as the Board desired to reserve it for observation cases in connection with the hospital. This motion arose out of a letter received, from the president of the hon. medical staff, in which he v informed the Board that there was a family at Ponsonby stricken down with measles,-and four out of the six cases were complicated with pneumonia. It was decided to give immediate relief to the family, and permit of their being removed into the infectious hospital. On the recommendation of a committee, Miss Street, of the Coromandel Hospital, was appointed matron of the Convalescent Home. - " ' . Plans and specifications of the proposed extension; of the Costley Ward were submitted by the Board's .architect, who was authorised to call for tenders for the work. The Steamship Company, Ltd., will run a special excursion to that popular resort, t Waiwora, to-morrow (Empire Day), the- Kapanui leaving . Queen-street Wharf at nine a.m. . t An octopus measuring 6ft across the tentacles was hauled, out of the water at the end of Rattray-street Wharf, Dunedin, the other day. " The hideous; creature got hooked on the line of someone who was fishing off the .wharf, and. a smart skirmish ensued; durinc which it was found necessary to bring up a boat from which to despatch the fish.
