AN IMPORTANT PROPOSAL.
[CV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Donedik, Monday. At a complimentary banquet tendered , Messrs. Lawrence (ex-Mayor) and (lore (cx*' v 'V councillor), at Dunedin, on Saturday even-" ing, the Mayor (Mr. Lundon) said it was a- < misfortune to lose" a Mayor immediately |||| after the expiration of his term of office.' As things now were, the Mayor, when his term ended 011 April 30, walked out of the Council and a fresh Mayor took his place. . Mr. Loudon thought some arrangement should be made whereby ex-Mayors, or pos- . sibly two ex-Mayors, should continue to nil S in Council for one or two years, -fifiich. a'. /•'! courio would, be in the interests of tile city. and ratepayers! In " small • municipalities where the chief functions were the collecting of rates and load-making, it did iwt»6o ; much matter, but in a 'city;, corporation where they had under their control so many undertakings and large finances, it was highly desirable that some alteration should be made in the law. Ho intended to bring the matter forward in the proper quarter.
