GOOD TEMPLARS.

On Saturday afternoon last the quarterly session of District Lodge representatives of the 1.0.G.T.. took place in St. James' Hall. There was a very good attendance of representatives from the city and outlying lodges, and a considerable -amount; of business was got through. Bro. G. Clark, D.C.T., occupied fcho chair. The. usual routine work was gone through. The representatives to Grand . Lodge session, recently • held at, Christchurch, handed in; an interesting report. Sister" Cann, who is in charge of tho juvenile '.temples,' read her report, sotting forth the : work being clone Vin this department. It; was decided to write a letter 01 thanks to the Hon. G. Fowlds for the handsome competitive banner presented to the district; It was decided that future meetings be held on Saturday afternoons; commencing at half-past two. As the members of Trafalgar Lodge, No. 850, which meets on board the warships now in port, intend holding a session in the Star .of Newton Lod<*e room on Thursday evening next, it was"decided that the shore lodges pay an official visit and entertain the men-of-wars-mon. The representative present from the fleet gave an outline of the strides being made by Good Tomplary in the navy. REMUERA ROAD BOARD. The first meeting of the Remuera Road Board since tho recent election was held last evening, there being present : Messrs. J. S. Dickson, Ci A. Oawkwell, A. Bevins, J. Dempsey, and E. Bond.. On the motion of Mr. Bevins, Mr. Dickson was re-elected chairman of the Board for the ensuing term Cattle on tho Footpaths: A complaint was received in reference to the damage i caused to the footpath in Mount Hobson Road by a herd of milking cows driven daily along the street mentioned, and it was also stated that the cattle were a source ioiF danger to pedestrians. The Board decided ' to communicate with the. police in the matter, with a view to having owners of animals prosecuted. Sanitation: In response to the suggestion of the health officer (Dr. Purdy), the Board agreed ,to call on residents to thoroughly clean up yards, and remove garbage, ana the turncock (Mr. T. Owsley) was appointed sanitary inspector; to make a houso to house visitation in _ tho thick!vpopulated parts of the district. Mr. L. Anderson wrote drawing attention to the insanitary methods now in use throughout the district for the removal of refuse, and consideration of the letter was deferred. Drainage: The matter of joining the city in a comprehensive drainage scheme, to include all . districts adjacent- to. the city, as recommended by the city engineer, was considered. A letter from the town clerk asked whether, in view of the importance of the question, the Board was prepared toconsider' the advisability of forming a Greater Auckland for the carrying out of a drainage scheme. The Chairman remarked that he was strongly opposed to entertaining the formation of a Greater Auckland, but considered it would be advantageous to the' district to co-operate for the purpose of . inaugurating a " comprehensive drainage scheme. He moved, That _ a reply in that direction be sent to the City Council." Mr. Bond, who was adverse to a Greater. Auckland, so far as Remuera Was concerned, seconded the motion, which was agreed to. - Water Meters: The Chairman reported that, in-reference to the and Jin rotary water meters supplied by Messrs,- Tylor and Sons, and in use in the district, ho had interviewed Mr. F. R. 'Ma gee, Australian manager who' had offered to take over the 350 meters at ,10a each, and Supply the ''Positive" patterns of water meter to tho value of the allowance for the old, ones. This was to be regarded as a satisfactory settlement of the whole matter, the chairman pointing out that the failure of the meters to register was in no way the fault of the manufacturers, but was due to the wrong type of meter . being ordered, tho manufacturers not being made aware of tho special conditions under which the meters were to work. The Board accepted Mr. Magee's offer, and passed a vote of thanks to the chairman for his efforts in the matter. . •' Defaulters: The clerk was instructed to proceed against ratepayers in default with their rates. "MISSIONS IN ASIA." ' Dr. Grattain Guinness, F.R.A.S., delivered an ' interesting • ; address in ,- the Pitt-street Methodist Church last evening, taking .as his ' subject " Missions in Asia. ' The body of - the'- church was "well filled; and the lecturer described the state of mission work "in the various Asiatic countries in an eloquent manner..
