THE DAIRYING INDUSTRY.
PROFITS OF THE FARMERS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN correspondent.] Wellington, Monday, Mr. Cooper, manager of Mangatoke Dairy Factory, Taranaki, speaking to a representative of the Times on the profits from dairying in that district, says that any amount of dairy fanners will have made this season between £4 and £5 an acre in milk money alone, in addition to which good money has been made for pigs, while calves reared are worth something. Suppliers to cheese factories will have made more. The time is coming, Mr. Cooper believes, when as much money will be made in the district off 50 acres as there is being made at the present time off 100, that is when the herds have been graded up to a high average standard'. Land has been brought under the- plough, thus enabling an adequate quantity of winter feed "to be provided, and the necessary shelter has be6n planted; Although land .in the dis- : trict is at present worth up to £40 an acre for grazing dairy . stock, Mr. Cooper ; does not consider it an inflated value even with the present style of dairying practised. Under the conditions referred to dairying i will pay with this land at double the price.
