It is reported (says the Feilding Star) that one of the Aorangi settlers has disposed of his lease of over 100 acres at £22 per acre. It has been unanimously decided by the Taonui (Feilding) School Committee that in future no home lessons be given the pupils attending that school. ./ At a meeting, of the Pihama Dairy Company (Taranaki) it has been decided to con-1 tinue butter-making in preference to installing a cheese-making plant. , • The Taihape News says that a crop of monster turnips is growing on Mr. W. A. Floyd's farm at. Waiuui. One of tho turnips weighed 281b and measured 38in in circumference. The turnip, which is of the purple top, Aberdeen species, is typical of the' ■' .crop. . „ i ..A girl of seventeen, giving evidence be- i fore a Brisbane magistrate a few days ago, said she was a boot machinist earning nine shillings a week, out of which she paid .seven shillings for board - and lodging, a penny a day for 'bus fare, and the remaining onb and sixpence she devoted to dress. An eel, two feet long, was found caught ' in a three-quarter-inch waterpipe at the Manchester Hotel the other afternoon, says • ' the Feilding Star. The eel had, of course, come down the main from the reservoir, following up the reticulation service until it became too small for him to make further progress. " ' . ■
