OPTION OF THE FREEHOLD.
RESOLUTION BY AUCKLAND . FARMERS': UNION. .
The following resolution,: dealing with the question vof permitting Crown tenants to acquire ; the .freehold of their holdings, was passed by the { Auckland '{ Farmers' Union conference ; on Thursday evening, after the business on the order paper had been disposed ;■ of:-'' That Crown {{ tenants , on the lease in perpetnity tenure have the right to acquire the ; freehold ef their hold rags en- payment by the lessee of the':original value, and the payment of the difference between the lease in perpetuity and the five per cent, charged to tenants with the right of purchase; and, also, that the tenants under the "; Land for Settlement Act be allowed to purchase ;at { the original valuation, providing all the conditions. imposed be complied with." .\ ;.
The resolution was {{ moved ; by . Mr. ;{. R. D. Duxfield, {on behalf of ; the Ngaruawahia branch, .seconded by Mr. ~' Boler (Matamata), supported by Mr. J. B. Clark (Ohaeawai), and carried unanimously.".
* Mr. Clark ■ stated that the Minister for Lands, {in {his{: address" at Ohaeawai, had made a strong ; point of the dissensions which,' "he 'said, existed : amongst the freehold advocates, ; one side favouring: the option of the freehold at the original valuation, and. the other" desiring it only at the present value. {{The. Farmers' Union, Mr. Clark urged, should present a united front on this question. .
