Business on the local fruit and 'produce markets during the past week is reported as having been fairly brisk and, supplies throughout were fully up to, if not in excess of, immediate requirements. The potato market was considerably •verstockud -by'. enipments■ from . Tasmania and (Sydney, ,the result beins. that locally-grown were almost unsalable, owing' to the difference in quality and the low prices: of the superior Imported article. Owing to the low and reasonable prices ruling for imported as compared at the same date of last season, pumpkins are almost unsalable. The onion market has been. rather bare of ,j;ood samples, . but prices : cJiow no .Improvement. Large quantities of sprouted came to hand, but could not- ..be quitted. Local chaff was offered freely, but the demand was slack. Grain generally was unaltered in value. In dairy produce fehero was a slight increase in the supplies of dairy butter, the majority being from medium to Inferior in quality, offered at auetion, but the demand was dull. Very few fresh eggs were sent forward and sold under, keen competition. There was practically no demand for pickled lot*. A' limited quantity of farmers' cheese of medium quality, was submitted ot suction, but the demand was slack. Factory varieties firmed on lost' week's values. Bacon' and hsra-i were offered fully up .to immediate requirement*, but values were unchanged.. ' Vegetables of all seasonable varieties were in fair:supply at moderate rates. The fruit market was fully.'if not over, supplied, but owing to the sudden severe change. in the weather to extreme cold the demand wan slack, the requirement* of retailers being very limited.
