At a mooting of dairy employees, held at Te Awamutu on March 30, it was considered 1 the time had arrived when concerted action should bo taken towards bringing the wage* of dairy employees into something like conformity with other classes of labour now prevailing. It was resolved i that; the emnloyees in the Auckland dis- ; trict be written to, and their views obtained , as to whether a union be formed or otherwise, before" proceeding to take any definite action.-Statement of. wages: The minimum rate of • wages for ; creamery manager to;■ be 10s per day all - the year; round, time and J a-half ■: for Sundays, double pay for public, holidays, ' one month s holiday each year on full pay, -.free house,' coal, • and - ! milk; - other employees' rates-of wages to be fixed later. I have :to - specially draw your \ attention to the Canterbury Dairy Employees v Industrial ■ Union of Workers, who 1 ore' issuing conditions, fixing - creamery managers wages at £3 15s per week. For more than 10,0001b milk per day there must bo an assistant; All carting of croam and stores to lie let by tender. In central factories the . i heads of 'eenarator, churning ,and .packing ' I departments" to be paid £3 } 10s ;,per ..week, ■ for a cream' receiving and washing : cans £3 }ss, first assistant $, other workers £1 10s i.to £2 10s, boys to-receive. 10s,; with an ai& ,nual increase of 4» per week. ; All ■'em i iployees to have a weekly half-holiday and tli days' holiday in each- year on full pay. ! The 'hours of labour to be 48 per week. 1 I have also received a letter -from the secIretary of the Taranaki Butter, Creamery, ! and Cheese Industrial Union ;of Workers, 'notifying the > formation of . the _ union, and 'asking me to organise a : meeting in the ! Auckland industrial district, : with a view to i the formation of a union.
