' Edith Matheson Malzard, for neglecting a' child, was sentenced ;to one mouth's imprisonment, the grand jury having reduced the charge from causing " the death of the child to neglecting it. At the Supreme Court to-day Thomas Wallace, alias Williams, alias McGowan, was found guilty of defrauding James Chapman and Arthur Chopman of,'£9o. The Chapmans are recent arrivals from England, and were duped by a confidence trick. Wallace was sent to gaol for three years. ;-. _ ..'••' :■;• ■ . At the Supreme Court to-day, Sydney Herbert Eddell, charged with the theft of money from various women, totalling £47 14s 6d, was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment.
