ILLNESS OF MR. HALL-JONES
A COMPLETE REST ORDERED. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ■•: y Wellington, .Thursday.; To-night's Post states that the ActingPremier (the Hon. W. Hall-Jones) has been ordered { by his medical advisers to" take i, complete rest for a few days, and in order to relieve him and thus facilitate •' his recovery his colleagues*, all of whom are how in Wellington (with, of course, ; the exception of Sir Joseph Ward), have arranged to undertake as much of the Departmental work ;of his portfolios as possible. The Acting-Premier at present holds the portfolios of Public Works, Railways, Colonial Treasurer, and Printing Office. .. The additional work ; now- thrown on Ministers by. the illness of Mr: Jones, and by Sir Joseph Ward's absence, necessitates their remaining almost continuously in Wellington until the session, begins, and consequently compels them to'cancel all but the most imperative engagements j outside the city. ,• His colleagues feel, that i the Acting-Premier should not be allowed Ito retard his complete recovery by again j resuming at too' early a date the great I burden of Departmental work that he has ; been carrying for the past six months.
