The president, Mr. S. Forsyth, presided, and 16 .branches were represented. •' ; : ; ";■:;■ A remit that the Government remove. the blackleg quarantine from Taranaki as soon as possible, as it interfered with the sale*of calves;;'was rejected, the majority of the delegates supporting the action of the Uovemmeht in stamping, out the .disease. -.-■•., ; A motion was carried to the effect that the Fanners' -.Union strongly opposes any methods of dealing with native surplus lands -which create or perpetuate a system of Maori landlordism. It was resolved, "That the Land Bill is ! opposed to the best' interests of farmers and the colony at large, and every .farmer is j urged-to do his utmost in, opposition. - ,-y It was also resolved, by nine to five, after ! a long debate,' "That a further endeavour be made ;to secure the native leaseholders under ' the West Coa;st settlement reserves i the .freehold on equitable terms.- .., !
