- COMPLAINT BY « A SCHOOL • : ' : v ■■•'■: * ' COMMITTEE. : •';.,'■■' * ! ''■•-..■-•.. ---' . •■ ..' - ■ ; ■ ,', v- • :...'■ :- ,■■-.'■; ■' '-■■'! A little ' difficulty has arisen in connection i with the Whangarei Technical School over some . typewriters. "■:;■ The; chairman ' of the School Committee, in a letter, to the Education Board v yesterday, ,wrote stating that the committee : had received a notice to pay forthwith for - six typewriters, bought two years ago ' for: the ■■■ Whangarei •; Technical School, The committee requested .the Board to hold a full; inquiry into the facts of the case, with a.:. view of placing the responsibility on the proper j shoulders., Mr. George George distinctly informed members of I the .Technical School* Committee that 25 per, cent, of; the fees and capitation ■ would be handed; to the committee to -; pay work--1 ing expenses, and from this they had in-1 1 tended ,to pay for the typewriters,! but the! amount had not boon paid over. The unfortunate and unaccountable misunderstand- 1 ing with Mr. George had had a disastrous effect upon the Technical School, as: was ' evidenced by ■.■ the great decrease in the ; at--1 tendance. But for _ the enthusiasm of the local staff and its instructor in agriculture, ' the lamentable spectacle?of ! the school'sj doors being closed would have been seen, j .Mr. George George, director of technical, education, • informed the ' Board that it was absolutely-untrue; that lie. had promised thai the committee; should have* -25- percent. 4&« the capitation. .■" As ; a matter .of fact, 05 per cent, went to : the teachers, and the/est was spent in administration. He had/distinctly informed' Mr. A. M. R. McSenzie that that was the case. There was» no heed to worry about the typewriters/ if the committee were in earnest. They, hod been ordered by the committee, and he understood that they would be paid lor. ; ;So far as an inquiry into ' the matte/ was concerned, he (Mr. George) would ; be very glad : if-one ..held. ' /' The -Chairman: (Mr. L. J. -Bagnail):; According to what they ;sayi; school is not doing the work it ought to 40. , - Mr. Parr observed that, apparently, there was , considerable ; dissatisfaction, and ■he thought the Board '■. oughr to have; an inquiry into the matter. f. ....... .c It was i resolved to • ho/d an inquiry.
