COROMANDEL NEWS.

Co an del, Friday. The New Zealand Granite Quarries, Limited, is pushing ahead with the work of opening up the Coromandel granite quarries, constructing a. jetty, erecting workmen's cottage*, etc. . A large and powerful crane is now being ma.de in Auckland and will he erected at the quarries within a fortnight, which will expedite handling and loading stone. The company has started sending stone to Auckland, a large scow load having been despatched on Wednesday last.
The bazaar in connection with Christ Church, which was opened in the Foresters' Hall on Wednesday evening, has proved an unqualified success. Mesd«mes Rhodes, Turner, Allen, Midwinter, A. J. Trescott and Simmonds, 4,nd Misses Rhodes, Audley, Daldy, i'reece, Turner, Fuller, Notman, Legge, Lloyd, and I. Pearce, worked energetically in different capacities. Competitions were arranged and supeyvi?ed by Mr. A. H. Gatland, and the children, under the control of Miss Fuller, contributed the vocal selection. " Swinging," and went through the " Sash Drill." Music was provided each evening by Miss Callaway, the Rev. C. A. Vaughan, Mr. Simmonds, mid Mr. A. J. Gatland.
