WAITEMATA.
A MEETING of the Waitemata County Council was held yesterday. Mr. J. H. O'Xeil (chairman) presided, and there were also present: Messrs. A. J. Hatfield, A. Cochran, T. Hooker. H. Cadness, and Kerr-Taylor. A letter from Mr. P. Lawson. and other residents asked the Council to make a road from Henderson Point to Henderson for the convenience of the residents of Henderson Point. The matter was referred to the engineer for report. The Inspector of Police stated that the constable at Xorthcote had been instructed to take action against persons allowing their horses to stray on the Northcote roads. A letter was read from the Commissioner of Crown Lands stating that complaints had been received from the Henderson people of cattle trespassing on thenland. It, was decided to ask the Commissioner to appoint a pound keeper, as the Council had been unable to do so. A letter was read from the Otamatca County Council asking the Council to send two delegates to a conference to be held during the month, it was decided that il the conference was held in some central place such as Helensville the Council would send representatives. A tetter was read from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board stating that the Council's contribution to the Board for 1907 was £668 10s 10d. •Mr. Cochran said it was a strange thing that with all the old age pensions the charitable aid accounts were increasing year by vear. Accounts amounting to £.554 lbs 5d were ordered to be paid. At a special meeting a special order was adopted declaring .Northcote a district for the purpose of the construction of drainage works therein. The area is that bounded towards the north by Bradney Road and the Great North Road, to the western boundary of the original section ul of the Parish of 'iakapuna, towards the west by the western boundary section 51, to Little Shoal Bay, and then towards the west and south-west by Little Shoal Bay, and the Waitemata Harooui- ' to Stokes Point, towards the south, south-east and east by the Waitemata Harbour and Shoal Bay to the place of commencement. The monthly meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council was held yesterday, /lenders were accepted as follows .—Erection of a bridge over the Ohinemuri River at Haumonga, W. J. Gray, £98 ss; trimming and metalling about eight chains of Conway s Road. Karangahake, Brennan and Co., £20; clearing out 120 chains of drains on Raunora Road, A. Green, £13 10s; clearing out 258 chains of drain on the Netherton Koad, If. Thompson, £65 15s; clearing out and improving the main outfall drain at Paeroa, J. Geehan, £77 Is 3d; supply and delivery of 300 cubic yards of epawls on the main road between the six and eight-mile posts, Brenan and Co., £137 10s. Complaints were received of the state of the Waitawheta Road, and the engineer was instructed to have it repaired. It was decided to have the approaches to the Puke ferry metalled. The erection of a fool bridge over Twomey's Creek, on the Komata Road, was authorised. The engineer reported that the different roads and. tracks at Karangahake required a good deal of attention, and that the fence between the high and low portions of the main street required to bo mcVed. The engineer was authorised to have the necessary work carried out. , A petition for repairs to the Puke Road iootpath was referred to the engineer, as was also an application for a flood-gate to be put on a creek at the Junction. W.J. Pocock, manager of the Durbar Syndicate, wrote asking that repairs be made to the road leading to the Durbar claim, at Waitekauri. It was decided to have the work clone. It was decided to ask the Ohinemuri Light and Power Company, to have the street lamps lighted by place of the present automatic system of lighting. The Finance Committee's report showed the overdraft to be £7046 10s 8d and the total indebtedness £7316 8s 2d. The receipts last month were £310 8s Id. Accounts, amounting to £1758 6s 6d, were passed for payment. Of these accounts, £691 9s 3d had already been paid under the authority of the Finance Committee.
