AQUATICS.
The weather, has set in decidedly wintry, and consequently both sailing and motor yachts are going out of commission for the season. Still, a few of the enthusiasts are keeping afloat, and will do until well into the middle of this month. The Foxton Herald, of Saturday last, says:"By the steamer Himitangi, yesterday, there arrived .for Mr. G. W. Morgan (local manager for Messrs. Levin and Co.) a trim little oil launch for his private use on the 'Manawatu River. Her dimensions are, length 18|ft, and beam sft. She was built by Mi. 0. R. Bailey, jun., of Auckland, the well-known boatbuilder, and has a 3|-h.p. ' Peninsular oil-engine, which will give a speed of eight knots. The launch, which was designed by Mr, Bailey himself, is a credit to the builders, and during her stay in Wellington was universally admired. She will carry comfortably 12 passengers. Her trial run on the river yesterday gave her owner every satisfaction." ROWING ASSOCIATION'S " SOCIAL. The Auckland Rowing Association's annual smoke concert was held at the Federal Club rooms on Saturday night last, when there was a large attendance. Air. A. J. Marriner, president of the association, occupied the chair. A very enjoyable ©Yelling was spent. A number of toasts were honoured, and several musical items were contributed, the accompaniments being played by Mr. Shorland. During the evening the trophies won at the association's gala were presented as follows: Champion pennant, Waitemata R.C. 1. West End R.C. 2; Dewar challenge shield, North Shore 1, Ngaruawahia 2; country fours, Kaipara Union 1, Whangarei 2; association's gala trophy, Waitemata 1, Auckland 2. ■ ST. GEORGE'S ROWING OLUB. The racing of St. George's Rowing Club took place last Saturday for Mr. Coates' trial-four cup. Five crews entered, and the winners of the first and second' heats were as follows:—C. E. Stone, (stroke), B. RowSell, E. Noonan, J. Cooper; H. B. Harper (stroke), K. Smith, F. G. Aloe, L. Stubbs. The final heat, after a keenly-contested race, was won by H. B. Harper's crew. The club are rowing for the Rathbone sculling cup this afternoon. St. George's Rowing Club are holding their annual ball in the Choral Hall on Monday, Juno 10. The committee are working hard to make it the social event, of the season. A large and influential ladies' committee has been formed, and the ball is under their patronage, as well as of the chief officers of the club. The Mayors of Auckland and Parnell, and the presideut of the Rowing Association have signified their intention of being present. Invitations will lie out in the course of next week, and. a large attendance is anticipated. The following handicaps for the sculling cup, presented by Air. E. W. G. Rathbone, have, been declared by Mr. A. G. Busby: — H. B. Harper, scratch: T. Stone, 3s.': C. E. Stone, 55.; A. E. Tattlev, Bs.; R. Donkin, 155. : .1. J. Timms, 205.: B. Row-sell, 255.: W.
